My Step-Family

I was living a pretty normal life until my crazy step-family showed up. Let me help you to understand this a little bit better. Before my stepfamily, it was just my dad and I but when they showed up suddenly it was my dad, my stepmom, my stepbrother, sister, and me. That’s 3 more people in our house, 3 more people eating our food and more importantly, 3 more people watching tv. Now I don’t want to come off as snobbish or anything but having 5 people in our house instead of 2 is driving me crazy. There is barely any room anymore to do what I enjoy.

Before me and my dad had a set day to go out and do what we wanted and that day was Sunday every Sunday we would either go out mini-golfing or see a movie, really just do what I wanted, Now since my stepmoms around Sundays their date night. And I’m forced to be left alone with my stepsisters.

Since Penelope, Paige, and Peyton showed up (those are their names by the way) I haven’t had any time to myself even if I did. There would be no room anywhere for me to do my own thing. Now don’t get me wrong, having two sisters is great because now I get to share my interests with them and do stuff that I really don’t want to do with my dad. Since they are 14 and I’m only 12 they can tell what I can expect later in life like my period, boys, and my Bar Mitzvah that’s happening in a few months. My sisters omg it feels weird even calling them that. Anyway, my sisters have gone to my school before me so they know the way around. You can say they know the twists and turns of the school and they know which teachers are good and bad.

For example, take my English teacher, He doesn’t know how to teach us.

Now let me talk about my stepmom Penelope. She’s mean she tells me I’m stupid when I get my grades back even though my average is 79% I know Paige and Peyton scored an 89% but I should not be compared to anyone, at least when I was alone I wasn’t compared to anyone else. Peyton would never feed and the food in the house was scarce. Penelope was not like her children Paige and Peyton. She was much worse and she wouldn’t let me go to parties. The worst part is that my birthday is Paige and Peyton’s half birthday (their twins by the way) so they have a cake that says their names on it. They don’t even celebrate my birthday even though everyone complains. My dad doesn’t even seem fazed or concerned about the way she treats me, I think because I haven’t had a mother figure in so long my dad doesn’t really know how I should be treated.

I Wish You All The Best

In English class, we had to read a book and choose our own artifact that we can make relating to the book. I chose to make a board game. There were many other options like a mock youtube channel mock podcast and children’s book.

Summary

My book was I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver. It is about a kid named Ben who comes out to their parents as LGBTQ2+. At first, their parents don’t accept them. At first, their parents kick them out and they are forced to go live with their sister who they have not seen in 10 years, and her husband. At first, he doesn’t like living with them and it is a little bit awkward at first but then he starts to get used to them. Their sister’s husband Thomas is a teacher who got them enrolled in his school and he meets some friends. In the book Ben has a hard time coming out to his parents and everyone around him when they finally do know one judges them and instead embraces them for who they are.

Why I chose this artifact

I chose this artifact because I thought I can connect most with the book on this artifact. Through the game, I will have punishment and chance sort of like Monopoly. On those chance and punishment cards, there will be sayings like you take a chance coming out to your parents, it doesn’t work out, move 3 steps back or your crush on this guy influences your grade, move back to the start to relearn everything. I also put pictures resembling the book’s theme. The book’s theme is that you should always respect people for who they are even if they’re different. For example in the book, Ben doesn’t want to come out to anybody because he is scared and doesn’t want anything to change.

The elements of my book that I added to the game

You start at the beginning of the game. During the game each player will spin the wheel to determine how many spots you go up, like what Ben is going through. As I said before there will be chance and punishment cards resembling the challenges that Ben had to go through being queer. As you move up the board the board will tell you what challenges you overcame.

Setup

This game is fairly easy to set up. You take out the board and add the pieces. There are two places to put your chance and punishment cards, sort of like Monopoly. Then you take out the four-player pieces and put them at the start. You put in the wheel and then you’re ready to play!!!!

Rules

Each player spins the wheel to determine how many spaces they advance. There are two types of cards: chance and punishment cards. Punishment cards mean that something bad is going to happen to you and chance cards mean that you have a fifty-fifty chance of getting something good. If you spin a 10,8 or 5 you have to move down 6 spots. The first person to get to the finish line wins.

Reflection

I think I can do better next time by getting better time management. Instead of finishing my book on the last day, I will read 5 more pages each day. Also, I should’ve remembered to put in all my sticky notes and stuff to remember the characteristics and the traits of the characters. For my game, I should’ve sketched out by the board, done my cards then my blogpost, and then finished up my board game. Next time I will definitely remember to do all this stuff to make my game better.

How you win

Like I said before my game is sort of like Candyland so how you win is pretty similar. In my game, you have to overcome challenges to get to the end. Those challenges may set you back and make it longer so you can’t win so fast. My chance and punishment cards can set you back or move you forward Depending on which one you pick.

Here are some pictures from my game!

My rocket!!!!

Hi,

today I will be talking to you about my rocket. Sorry, let’s rewind a bit, a little bit ago in our science class we were learning about flight. After we learned about flight Mr. Ray gave us a fun project we had to build a rocket! Mr. Ray gave us a piece of paper with instructions and we built a rocket. After we all finished our rocket we got to go outside and launch it. My rocket actually went 29.4m I think it went that far because I cut the sides on an angle so it could overcome gravity. My rocket really overcame gravity and gravity only pulled it down when it was supposed to. I actually ended up winning.

I think I could work on my form and what I used. For example, I think I could fill my rocket a little bit more with paper to make it heavier or put a little bit more masking or shipping tape on it. I could see that my rocket was deforming the second time we launched it. I think I should have reinforced it with struts to make it a little bit more less likely to collapse.

My Mishpacha project

In our Jewish Studies class, we had to do a project called the Mishpacha project in our project we had to do either an interview with our family and then create a video or a PowerPoint. We had to interview our parents or parent on the questions that Mr. Washerstien provided us with the questions were how did you get your Hebrew name, how did you get your English name, where is your family originally from, and more. I chose to interview my mom and my dad. I found out that my family is from Poland. Not only did my friends learn something about my family but I did too.

If I had my own school

If I had the chance to make a school I would… Want my school to learn technology, sports and Law. This school would be a university called Bakling university. I would let the students do whatever they want as long as they did not cross a line and get good grades. They can go on their computer whenever they want to watch youtube. I don’t care if the teacher is teaching in the background, if you got mostly Ds and Cs then you could not go on your computer but if you work up to Bs and As then you could go on your computer.

The teacher would be live-streaming everything just in case the students wanted to go into a room with fewer people. There would be So many rooms in this school depending on how many students wanted to be in fewer class sizes. The chairs would also be able to transform into being if you wanted to be more comfortable. You could also have the choice to learn digitally or in person. This school would be located in Wawa Ontario.

Maya and Zoe’s French story.

“Oui”.. . dit Zoe.

“Maintenant, reposons-nous, écoles demain.”

reconciliation

Reconciliation means to restore or rebuild the community.

This week I learned that the first nations are treated differently than everyone else. The people are just like us and it is not fair that they get paid differently and treated differently.  They had to go through residential schools that changed for the worse their hair was cut and they would get a beating if they were caught speaking their language or caught performing their rituals. The last residential school closed in 1996 in Saskatchewan. John A Macdonald the former prime minister of Canada he was also the one who funded the residential schools with many churches. Over 150 000 people attended residential schools and over 5400 bodies have been found

There were many stories of people in residential schools. I will talk about the story of Chanie Wenjack. He was a very brave 12-year-old boy from Ojibway. He ran away in the winter of October with his 2 friends. They made it to his uncle’s house for a few days until his uncle said that they would need to go because he was not very well off and could not supply them anymore. Both of his friends went back to the residential school but decided to walk to his home. He froze to death and starved. Gordon Downie is a famous rock musician who made a song about Chanie Wenjack, a secret path. Heritage Minutes: Chanie Wenjack – YouTube

One thing that we can do to help is wearing an orange shirt on September 30 to show that you care.
